Description
Catro Ferrados | D.O. Ribeiro White Wine
A limited-edition signature white, made by a colleiteiro in the parish of Puga, in the heart of the Ribeiro.
What a ferrado is
The wine's name is a unit of measurement. The ferrado is a traditional Galician agrarian measure that began as a measure of grain volume and ended up being used to measure land, with a different value in each district. Catro ferrados, four ferrados: a name that speaks of a small vineyard and land of one's own.
A colleiteiro wine
The winery is housed in an old family home whose winegrowing activity in the Ribeiro dates back to the 19th century, and it is run by colleiteiro José Varela Aguado. The colleiteiro is the small grower who makes wine exclusively from the grapes of his own vineyards. Here that means four plots in Puga totaling around two hectares, all planted with white varieties. From harvest to bottling, the entire process takes place at the winery itself.
Three native varieties
Treixadura as the base, bringing body and volume; Godello, which adds structure; and a small percentage of Loureira, the most aromatic variety, responsible for the fruity expression that appears as soon as it is poured.
Tasting note
Bright, clean lemon yellow. On the nose, white and citrus fruit with floral notes of jasmine and a balsamic, mineral background. On the palate it is fresh and balanced, with well-integrated fruity acidity and a slightly citrusy finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve between 8 and 10 ºC. It is a white made for the sea: white fish, shellfish, smoked fish and, of course, canned seafood. It finds its best match in cockles, razor clams or queen scallops in brine.
